Overview
The Shure SM57 is the dynamic instrument microphone you will find on almost every stage and in most studios. Its contoured frequency response with a presence rise gives a clean, punchy sound on snare, toms, guitar amps and brass, and it works well on vocals when you need it to.
The uniform cardioid pattern picks up the source in front and rejects sound from behind, which helps reduce spill and feedback on busy stages. A pneumatic shock mount cuts handling noise, and it takes high sound pressure levels without distortion. The SM57 is a must have for churches, schools, bands, venues and hire companies.

Forefront Tip
On a guitar amp, start with the SM57 close to the grille, pointed at the edge of the speaker cone, then move it towards the centre for more brightness. On snare, angle it over the rim and away from the hi hat so the cardioid rear rejection keeps the cymbals out.
