Overview
The Sennheiser e 902 is a dynamic cardioid microphone built for low frequency sources: kick drum, bass guitar cabinets, floor toms and brass such as tuba. Its contoured response pulls back the mid-range and lifts the lows and highs, giving a full body with a defined, punchy attack that sits well in a band mix.
Where you place it shapes the sound, from warm and round inside the drum to sharper and more direct at the port. Forefront Tip
Start with the e 902 just inside the resonant head port, angled toward the beater, then slide it in for more attack or back out for more boom. On a bass cab, place it close to the cone and slightly off centre for a rounder tone. For a two mic kick, add an e 901 inside the drum.
