Overview
The Sennheiser e 901 is a half-cardioid condenser boundary microphone tuned for kick drum. It lies flat inside the drum on its slip-free rubber pad, with no stand or clip needed, and gives a tight, dry attack with fast transient response. The integrated preamp and gold-plated XLR make it simple and dependable on stage.
It is just as useful away from the drum kit. Laid on the soundboard of a grand piano, a lectern, an altar or a conference table, it picks up evenly without a visible mic stand. That makes it a sensible choice for churches, schools and venues that need one rugged mic that can cover the kick on Sunday and the piano at the concert.

Forefront Tip
Lay the e 901 on the pillow or blanket inside the kick, a little off centre of the beater, and move it closer or further from the batter head to trade attack for body. Pair it with an e 902 at the resonant head port and flip polarity on one channel if the low end thins out when you blend them.
