Overview
The Austrian Audio OD505 is an active dynamic vocal microphone. It has the toughness and feedback resistance of a dynamic stage mic, with an active circuit that gives a higher output and more of the open detail you would expect from a condenser.
The handmade ODC50 capsule uses a supercardioid pattern to reduce bleed and feedback, a second passive capsule cancels handling noise, and a built in pop diffuser controls plosives. The active electronics add around 6 to 8 dB of output, so the sound stays consistent whatever preamp or cable length you are using. It suits singers, worship teams, venues, podcasters and radio, and hire stock that has to survive regular use.

Forefront Tip
Unlike a normal dynamic, the OD505 needs 48 V phantom power to work, so label it clearly in your mic box and turn phantom on for its channel. With a supercardioid pattern the quietest spot is slightly off the back, so place wedges at about 45 degrees either side of the rear of the mic rather than directly behind it.
