Overview
The DX164-W puts 16 mic preamps and 4 line outputs into a wall, stage floor or NEMA box, so stage connections live where performers need them instead of on a multicore. It runs the 96kHz DX protocol over one Cat5e cable up to 100 m back to the mixer or an upstream DX expander.
A reversible mounting frame suits in-wall or on-wall fitting, custom brackets fit a standard NEMA 12 x 12 box, and it drops into a stage floor pocket. Power comes in on IEC or, for fixed installs, a gland module with screw terminals, and a 12V DC input can act as a backup supply. Redundant and cascade modes work the same as the other DX expanders.
Highlights
- 16 mic/line preamps with +60 dB gain, -20 dB pad
- 4 balanced, relay protected XLR line outputs
- 96kHz DX protocol over Cat5e up to 100 m
- In-wall, on-wall, NEMA box or stage pocket mounting
- IEC or screw terminal mains plus 12V DC backup input
- Redundant or cascade mode (2 expanders per DX port)
Compatibility
Works with any Allen & Heath DX port, direct or through a DX Hub, DX Link card or GX4816: Each DX port carries 32 x 32 channels at 96kHz and takes up to 2 cascaded DX expanders. It is not compatible with legacy dSNAKE ports (GLD, 48kHz Qu-16/24/32/Pac/SB) or CQ mixers.
- dLive MixRack DM0, DM48, DM64 (DX1 to DX4) and CDM32, CDM48, CDM64 (DX1, DX3)
- dLive S Class and C Class Surfaces (DX5, DX6) and DX Link card in dLive or Avantis
- Avantis and Avantis Solo (SLink)
- SQ-5, SQ-6, SQ-7, SQ5+, SQ6+, SQ7+, SQ-Rack (SLink, or I/O port with SLink module)
- Qu-5, Qu-6, Qu-7 (SLink, 96kHz Qu models only)
- AHM-64 (SLink) and AHM-16/32 (SLink I/O module)

Forefront Tip
In a church or theatre fit-out, wire the 12V DC input from a small UPS backed supply so the stage box stays up if the local circuit trips. If it is going in a stage floor, ask us about a suitable floor pocket, and leave a service loop on the Cat5e.
